The University of Chicago Approach

A case study on how the University of Chicago facilitates new COVID-19 research through its Big Ideas Generator initiative which was designed to support early stage, “proof of concept” research simply too risky to qualify for federal grants.

​

While the size of BIG’s grants are modest, up to $75,000, the timeline is anything but. That’s because the overarching objective of BIG is to identify successful approaches as quickly as possible to qualify for additional federal funding and expeditiously translate those promising lab findings into patient solutions – especially critical for at-risk underserved populations.
